Summary
Use assignments to provide your students and/or residents sets of questions and/or articles from AMBOSS to help them gain specific knowledge and skills. Create custom assignments based on the content that you are teaching (e.g., atrial fibrillation) and the specific needs of your learners, or select from pre-designed AMBOSS study plans to create an educational bundle for your learners. With these tools, educators can easily create, customize, and assign targeted learning experiences that align with your curriculum and support your learners' progress.
Overview
- Access and manage assignments through “Educator assignments” in the left-hand menu.
- Educators can create, edit, assign, and bundle assignments.
- Locate specific assignments using the status filter and/or search bar.
Creating assignments
- Click the “Create Assignment” button.
- Give the assignment a title.
- Define assignment type:
- Questions only
- Articles only
- Articles and questions
- For assignments with questions, choose which questions to include and which to exclude.
- Include questions from:
- Licensing and subject exams (i.e., USMLE, COMLEX, Basic Science Subject Exams, Shelf Exams)
- OR Specialty Board exams (e.g., Internal medicine board exam)
- Use the filter function to include questions based on:
- System
- Discipline
- Article
- Competency
- Difficulty level
- Questions you previously bookmarked in your saved folders
- Include questions from:
- Exclude questions already used in other assignments to prevent repeating questions used in earlier assignments.
- Choose the number of questions to include in the assignment.
- Click “Continue” to advance to the “Edit assignment” page, where you can add articles and change or refine the assignment.
Editing assignments
- Access the “Edit assignment” page from the “Create assignment” page or by clicking the 3-dot menu next to an existing assignment.
- Choose the format of the assignment:
- Study mode: for review and learning (e.g., no time limit, ability to review questions)
- Exam mode: for formal assessment (e.g., set timer, designated passing score, limit pausing/reviews)
- Add articles to your assignment:
- Search for specific topics.
- OR filter through thousands of AMBOSS articles, organized by medical training stage.
- Select articles from the article folder tree.
- Reorder or delete included articles.
- Preview, sort, add, and/or remove articles before finalizing your assignment.
- Refine the questions included in your assignment:
- Review the questions based on your learning objectives.
- Preview each question.
- Edit or remove questions.
- Search for new questions using the search bar.
- You can return to this screen later to make changes to your assignment as long as it is not active yet.
Assigning assignments
- Click “Edit” under “Learners and collaborators” to open the “Assign” window.
- Browse through your institution's learners and filter them using cohorts, groups, and status:
- Select the learners from your institution’s list.
- Invite other educators to be collaborators on your assignment.
- Set a “Starts on” date to define when your assignment should begin.
- Consider setting an optional “Ends on” date so learners know when the assignment is due.
- Click “Assign” to finalize.
- Learners are notified by email:
- When a new assignment becomes available to them
- 24 hours before the due date if you have chosen to set one in the previous steps
Once an assignment reaches its “ends on” date, learners can no longer access the materials to resume their progress.
Creating a bundle of assignments
- Create a bundle of assignments in the “Educator Assignments” window.
- Give the bundle a title.
- Select a course to include in the bundle:
- Use any of our pre-designed AMBOSS Study Plans.
- Customize them to your curriculum needs.
- Click “Continue” to advance to the “Edit bundle” page.
- Choose the format of the bundle:
- Study mode: for review and learning (e.g., no time limit, ability to review questions)
- Exam mode: for formal assessment (e.g., set timer, designate passing score, limit pausing/reviews)
- Choose your institution's learners by filtering them using cohorts, groups, and status.
- Set a “Starts on” and optionally an “Ends on” date.
